BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In their last dual meet in LIU Pool this season, the LIU women's swimming team went out with a bang, beating Wagner for the first time in program history, 116-71. Since the program's Division I inception in 2015, LIU had not beaten the Seahawks in a dual meet. That changed Friday, as the Sharks won handily.
Prior to the meet, LIU honored graduating seniors
Emily Shoup and
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan.
LIU opened the meet on a strong note, going 1-2-3 in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Rea Shehu, Touchette-McGowan,
Ella Johnson and
Lydia Amon won the event in 1:49.90.
Freshman
Venna Andersen won the 50 free in 24.69, and also took the top spot in the 100 breast, in 1:05.67.
Ella Johnson won the 100 butterfly (57.37) and the 200 IM (2:15.13), while
Jacqueline Grabowski won the 100 free in 54.60. Freshman
Sara Rodriguez Rubio and
Aidan Condit touched nearly at the same time in the 100 back, as Rubio won in 59.22 and Condit took second in 59.28.
And the Sharks capped the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, as Amon, Andersen, Shehu and Grabowski won in 1:39.35.
