BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's swimming team won the pool version of the Battle of Brooklyn Saturday afternoon, beating the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers in LIU Pool, 189-72. The Sharks swept several events and had top finishes in nearly every race.
Three different Sharks won two events on the day. Freshman
Venna Andersen won the 100 breast (1:05.27) and the 100 free (53.82). Junior
Ella Johnson won both the 100 butterfly (57.22) and the 200 butterfly (2:05.52), while senior
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan won the 200 breast in 2:29.29, and the 200 IM in 2:11.98.
Sophomore
Aidan Condit won the 200 back in 2:08.48. LIU also took the top three spots in multiple events. The Sharks swept the 100 back, with freshman
Rea Shehu, Condit and
Sara Rodriguez Rubio going 1-2-3. Shehu's winning time was 58.93.
LIU also swept the 50 free, as
Jacqueline Grabowski won the event in 25.36, and Shehu and
Alycia Weber came in second and third.
In the relays, LIU also did well. The Sharks went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, as Shehu, Andersen, Rodriguez Rubio and Grabowski won the event with a time of 1:47.40. And the Sharks capped the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, as
Lydia Amon, Johnson, Andersen and Grabowski won in 3:38.44, a full five seconds before the next team touched.
