Sauer not only earned his first NEC Coach of the Year honor, he also made program history as the first-ever LIU winner of the award. It was the best showing for the Sharks at the NEC meet since winning it all back in 1988.
 
From the start, every other runner to cross the finish was a Shark with three LIU harriers ranking in the top-six. Senior Kelly Iocca led the way, finishing in second with a time of 18:04.3. Teammate Lexi Smith placed fourth, clocking a time of 18:26.9. The 2021 NEC Freshman of the Year honoree, Josephine Critchley crossed the tape in sixth with a time of 18:46.6.
 
The NEC also announced its men's and women's All-Conference & All-Rookie teams. The All-Conference teams are made up of the first 14 runners to cross the finish line at each NEC Championship race, while the All-Rookie squads are made up of the top seven rookie finishers.
