Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Manhattan for Home Opener on Wednesday Afternoon

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Long Island University women's lacrosse team takes the field at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium for the first time in 2020 as the Sharks welcome Manhattan at 2:00 p.m. for the home opener.

Notes on the Sharks
The Sharks opened up the season on Saturday with a hard-fought game against Rutgers. Paige Sherlock and Alyssa Mallery both finished the day with a hat trick. Sherlock scored the first goal of the year for the Sharks as she opened up the scoring after converting a free position attempt. The Sharks were able to stop a six goal Scarlet Knights run when Amanda Masullo scored her first goal of the year right before halftime. Coming out of the break, the Sharks scored three unanswered goals as Mallery scored twice and Rachel Masullo scored a beautiful over the shower goal. After neither team scored for six minutes in the second half, Mallery tallied her third goal of the day. Sherlock completed her hat trick as she scored twice within 37 seconds, pulling the Sharks within three at the time. Rutgers would score three more times to put the game out of reach. Hailey Duchnowski made 11 saves in the cage for the Sharks. In addition to her goal, Amanda Masullo had two assists and won three draw controls. Brianna Feldman finished the day with a free position goal and an assist. Rachel Masullo had a team-high seven draw controls, while Mallery also had four.
 
Scouting the Jaspers
The Manhattan College Jaspers look to carry the momentum as they come in to Wednesday afternoon's matchup after opening up the season with an overtime win over La Salle. Emily Englert and Deb Peifer each scored a hat trick in the victory. Grace Lipponer scored the game-winning goal as she converted a free position attempt in overtime. Lipponer finished the day with two goals and an assist. Emily Sandford scored twice and had a team-high five draw controls. The Jaspers goalkeeper Ashley Gambardella made eight saves in her collegiate debut, earning MAAC Rookie of the Week honors after her performance. The win marks the first win at Manhattan for first year head coach Jenna Dingler.
 
Up Next
The Sharks will be on the road again on Wednesday, February 19 when they head to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on Monmouth University. Game time at Kessler Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m.
