Sharks Move into Tie for 1st Place with Win Over Le Moyne

HC Meghan McNamara-Cafiero earns 250th career win

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's lacrosse team (9-5, 6-1 NEC) moved into a tie for first place in the NEC standings with a 10-7 win over Le Moyne College (11-3, 6-1 NEC) on Sunday afternoon at Shark Stadium. Nineteenth year head coach Meghan McNamara-Cafiero earned her 250th career win as the Sharks notched their fourth consecutive victory.

With a 6-1 record in NEC play, LIU is currently tied with Le Moyne and Stonehill College for the top spot in the conference standings with two regular season games remaining. The league-leading trio is one game ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson University and Wagner College (5-2), who share fourth place.

After trailing 2-0 in the first quarter, the Sharks rattled off nine of the next 10 goals, including eight straight scores in the second quarter to seize control of the game. Julia Trainor led with three goals and one assist, recording her seventh hat trick of the season and fourth in a row. Selia Lyons scored two goals with two assists, Lindsey Lucia scored two goals with one assist, and Kayla McCarthy scored twice, recording her first career multi-goal game.

LIU posted 17 shots on goal to Le Moyne's 14 and successfully cleared the zone 20 of 21 times, while holding the Dolphins 18-for-23 on clear attempts. Goalie Skyler Fig made seven saves.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday at Stonehill. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.
