NEW BRITAIN, Conn.– The Long Island University women's lacrosse team (8-5, 5-1 NEC) defeated the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils (1-11, 1-5 NEC) on the road Wednesday afternoon, 17-5.
Julia Trainor set a new career high with eight points after scoring four goals and four assists. In conference play, Trainor is leading the NEC with 22 goals and averaging 3.67 goals per game.
Alexa Nuzzi and
Selia Lyons followed with five points, Nuzzi scoring four goals and assisting one and Lyons scoring three and assisting two goals to record her 100th career point.
In addition to Trainor, Nuzzi, and Lyons,
Erin Harkins (2),
Lindsey Lucia (2),
Ally Taranto, and
Ava Hernandez each contributed to the goals total for the day. With Trainor assisting four and Lyons two, Nuzzi, Lucia, Hernandez, and
Ashley Magee each assisted a goal to help LIU earn a season-high 17 goals and 27 points.
The Sharks outshot the Blue Devils, 35-16, with 25 being on target versus CCSU's 12.
Skyler Fig started for the Sharks in goal, making six saves.
Hannah Simpson and
Elizabeth Crames both went in the game in the second half, Crames had one save in net. LIU picked up 15 of the 22 groundballs recorded in the game, also winning 15 of the 23 draw controls.
The Sharks return home to action on Sunday, April 12, versus Le Moyne College at Shark Stadium. Opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
