BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University women's swimming team was named a Fall Scholar All-America Team, it was announced by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Wednesday. The Sharks finished with the fourth-highest team GPA in the nation, a 3.70. They also finished with the highest GPA in the Northeast Conference for the sport of women's swimming.
In Division I women's swimming, Nebraska-Omaha took the top spot, with a 3.76 GPA, followed by Florida International (3.74), Northeastern (3.72), and then Long Island University, Rice and Indiana State, tied for fourth with a 3.70.
"We couldn't be more proud of what this team has accomplished in the classroom so far this year," head coach
Matthew Donovan said. "Making the top ten in the nation has always been one of our team goals. To finally be here along with these other great universities is a tremendous honor."
The CSCAA selected a record 762 programs from 480 institutions to the Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2019 semester. The teams were selected on the basis of their Fall grade point averages and represent 17,685 student-athletes. Over sixty percent of the selections (470 teams) belong to women's programs.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
