MONTREAL, Quebec- The Long Island University women's ice hockey team concluded its trip to Montreal with an exhibition matchup against No. 1 Concordia on Sunday afternoon.
The Sharks opened up the exhibition matchup by holding the Stingers scoreless for the first 18 minutes of the game. Concordia was able to break through the tough Sharks' defense with a minute and a half left to take a 1-0 advantage. The Stingers would find the back of the net once more to take a 2-0 lead before the first intermission. Concordia took 17 shots on goal in the opening stanza.
The Stingers added one more to take a three-goal lead after capitalizing on a power play early in the second period. That would be the only goal the Sharks gave up for the remainder of the second period. Offensively, the Sharks took five shots on goal.
Concordia would add two more goals in the third period. The Sharks finished with nine shots on goal.
Kenzie Harmison played all 60 minutes in net and finished the day with 36 saves after facing 41 shots.
The Sharks begin the second half of the inaugural season and return to NEWHA play on Friday, January 10 when they welcome Saint Anselm College to Long Island for a two-game series. The first game of the weekend against the Hawks is set for 3:00 p.m.
