WATERBURY, Conn. - Senior forward
Paige Vreeman recorded her first career hat trick and the Long Island University women's ice hockey team (18-15-1, 16-11-1 NEWHA) defeated Post University (10-23-1, 10-17-1 NEWHA), 4-1, in Saturday afternoon's regular season finale. The Sharks concluded the regular season on a three-game winning streak, compiling wins in 11 of their 14 games.
After a scoreless first period, Vreeman's first of the night came at 12:41 of the second, assisted by
Grace Babington and Drew Dyczkowksi.
With the score tied 1-1 in the third,
Crosby Wildfong scored the eventual game-winner, putting LIU ahead 2-1 at 2:23 of the period, with assists by
Ryane Kearns and
Milana Butera.
Vreeman's second goal (3:38 third period) was assisted by Dyczkowski and her third goal (7:16) was assisted by
Addison Robillard.
Redshirt sophomore goaltender
Victoria Rutnik made 25 saves. Defensively, the Sharks blocked 23 shots.
LIU clinched the No. 5 seed in the upcoming New England Women's Hockey Alliance Tournament and will travel to fourth-seeded Stonehill College for the best-of-three quarterfinal series. Puck drop of game one is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m.
