Men's Lacrosse Releases 2020 Schedule

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Head coach Eric Wolf has announced the 2020 Long Island University men's lacrosse schedule, a 14-game slate featuring six contests at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The 2020 schedule will pin LIU against eight Northeast Conference teams, and three teams from the Colonial Athletic Association, two from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association, and one from the Big East.

"I know the group that we have in our locker room is one that thrives on competition and there is no better way to find out what we are made of than by challenging ourselves," said Wolf about the 2020 schedule. "We have put together a strong out of conference schedule which will help prepare us for an extremely competitive NEC."

Following two preseason exhibitions, the Sharks open their season on the road on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Siena College. The Blue and Gold play host to Wagner College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 15 and continue a two-game home stand the following weekend (Feb. 22) when St. John's University comes to Brookville. LIU closes out the month of February when it makes the short trek to Hempstead to battle local rival Hofstra University at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 29.

The Sharks continue to their non-conference schedule with their first evening game of the season on Tuesday, March 3 when they face off against Fairfield University at 7:00 p.m. LIU continues a busy start to the month of March on Saturday, March 7 when its hosts Quinnipiac University at 2:00 p.m. as part of a men's and women's doubleheader. The non-conference stretch concludes with a matchup against the University of Massachusetts who concluded the 2019 season ranked No. 13 in the Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 18 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association rankings.

New for the 2020 season will be a divisional format of play in the NEC, with teams playing four divisional opponents and three cross-divisional opponents.

LIU will compete each Saturday from March 14 through April 25 during its final stretch of conference opponents. The Sharks will open NEC play against the New Jersey Institute of Technology on March 14 at 12:00 p.m. before returning to Brookville for two-consecutive home contests against Sacred Heart University on March 21 and Robert Morris University on March 28. LIU will also honor the 2010 Division II National Championship on March 28, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the program's third national title.

The Blue and Gold travel to upstate New York on April 4 for a matchup with Hobart College and will continue on the road for a much-anticipated matchup with a familiar foe in Merrimack College on April 11. The Sharks will honor its senior class on April 18 before it takes on Mount St. Mary's University, and will close out the regular season on the road at St. Joseph's University on April 25.

Five teams will compete for the 2020 NEC Championship for the first time, with a play-in game between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds kicking off the tournament on Tuesday, April 28 at the No. 4-seed's campus. The semifinal round will be hosted at the top-seeded team's campus on Thursday, April 30 and a champion will be crowned and earn an automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 2.
