Day One Results
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The LIU women's swimming team kicked off the 2019-20 season at the SFC Aquatic Center, taking part in day one of the Brooklyn Invitational. After the first day, the Sharks trail the host Terriers, 85-51, but lead Merrimack, 86-23. The three teams continue with the remaining events tomorrow at LIU Pool.
The Sharks took the top spot in the first event of the day, taking first and third in the 400 medley relay. The squad of
Amanda Peren,
Tara Cabiling,
Noemie Lacroix-Moreau and
Lydia Amon won the event in 4:02.51, while the team of
Jacqueline Grabowski,
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan,
Amanda San Juan and
Gillian Pierce-But took third in 4:08.95.
Touchette-McGowan had LIU's other first place finish of the day, as she dominated in the 400 IM, winning by nearly six seconds, with a time of 4:42.25.
LIU also had podium finishes for three other individuals, as Peren came in second in the 200 free, in 1:49.23, Lacroix-Moreau came in second in the 200 yard butterfly (2:14.98), and Amon took third in the 50 free (25.78).
The Sharks capped the night by taking two of the top three spots in the 200 free relay. The team of Amon, Pierce-But, Cabiling and Peren took second, in 1:42.87, and the squad of Grabowski, Touchette-McGowan, Lacroix-Moreau and
Madison McCarthy came in third with a time of 1:45.17.
The three teams will meet again, Saturday, October 5 in LIU Pool to complete the remainder of the meet, beginning at 11 a.m.
