Women’s Swimming Heads East for Stony Brook Tri-Meet

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University women's swimming team resumes competition this weekend, after a 10-day break. The Sharks will head east to take on Stony Brook and Sacred Heart at the Stony Brook Tri-Meet in University Pool.

LAST TIME OUT
The last time LIU competed was October 12, when the Sharks took part in the NJIT Invitational. There, they beat two out of the three teams at the 2019 NJIT Invitational to take second at the two-day championship style meet. The Sharks beat both Saint Peter's (239-84) and Manhattan (233-98) handily, while falling to perennial NEC foe Saint Francis U. narrowly, 185-129.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
  • Stony Brook has raced only once so far this season, taking on Wagner at home, but falling to the Seahawks, 165-131.
  • The Seawolves swept the America East weekly awards after that loss, as redshirt senior Michal Liberman was named the Swimmer of the Week, and redshirt freshman Mia Sclar was named the Diver of the Week. Liberman won three total events including two individual victories. In the 100-yard backstroke she touched the wall first with a time of 57.47 seconds and in the 100 butterfly she earned the win in 57.89. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:48.43), swimming the lead-off backstroke leg. Sclar notched a win on the one-meter diving board, garnering a total score of 221.70 points.
  • Sacred Heart has not won a dual meet yet this season, having fallen to CCSU, Iona, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner.
  • Last year at this meet, LIU swept the two teams, beating Sacred Heart 174-88, and Stony Brook, 177-84.

UP NEXT
The Sharks will host perennial NEC powerhouse Saint Francis U. in LIU Pool for a dual meet rematch. LIU and SFU will face off Saturday, November 2 at 10:30 a.m.
