BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Long Island University women's ice hockey team welcomes the reigning Division I National Champions, the University of Wisconsin, to Long Island this weekend for a two-day series. The first game against the Badgers will be on Friday October 18 at Iceworks in Syosset. The series will wrap up on Saturday, October 19 when the Sharks host the Badgers at the historic Nassau Coliseum, the home of the New York Islanders.

NOTES ON THE SHARKS
The Sharks continue its historic first season this weekend against its first nationally-ranked opponent Wisconsin.
Carrigan Umpherville made history in the Sharks' season opening series against the University of Connecticut when she scored the first goal in program history. Her goal came in the middle of the third period of the second game against the Huskies and was assisted by
Matilda af Bjur.
Mia McLeod was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week after her performance in net for the Sharks on game one. She finished the game with 49 saves after facing 53 shots.
Ava Bailey got the start in goal for the second game against the Huskies and finished the game with 46 saves. Defensively, the Sharks killed off five of the seven Husky power plays.
Abby Latorella closed out the opening weekend with a team-high seven shots.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
The No. 1 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers is off to another hot start this season. The Badgers sport an undefeated 6-0 record and are coming off a milestone weekend at No. 9 Ohio State. Sophie Shirley notched her 50
th career point last weekend against the Buckeyes. She is tied for second on the team with 14 points this season behind four goals and 10 assists. Darryl Watts, this week's WCHA Player of the Week, finished last weekend with two goals and five assists, marking her second-straight seven-point weekend. She has scored in six consecutive games which is tied for the 10
th-longest streak in program history. Goaltender Kristen Campbell leads the NCAA with six wins, and three shutouts. She has 92 saves this season and is sporting a 0.88 goals-against average and a save percentage of .948. The Badgers' head coach Mark Johnson is the winningest coach in Wisconsin history and became the first national collegiate women's ice hockey coach to reach 500 wins, a feat he conquered last weekend against the Buckeyes. Johnson was the leading scorer for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team that won the gold medal in Lake Placid, N.Y., and scored two goals in the "Miracle on Ice" game against the Soviet Union.
