BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU softball first year
Desiree Smith was tabbed the NEC Rookie of the Week for her pitching performances over the weekend
it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Smith posted a 0.49 ERA in the circle last week and earned a pair of victories for the Sharks in their series against Central Connecticut State. The rookie made four appearances which was highlighted by a complete-game shutout that saw her scatter seven hits against CCSU. Five of her 10 strikeouts came during that triumph against the Blue Devils. She pitched 13 and 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings. This is Smith's first NEC Rookie of the Week honor this season.
Up next for the Sharks, they face off against the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson in a double header on Saturday. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
