BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Three members of the Long Island University softball team (19-30, 18-3 NEC) earned weekly awards from the NEC on Tuesday, including junior Lily Hinkle being named the NEC Player of the Week while sophomore Ava Fairbanks received NEC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Additionally, junior Jen Rodriguez was named an NEC Prime Performer.
Hinkle stuffed the stat sheet for the Sharks last week, recording seven hits in 13 at-bats for a .538 batting average, three RBI, two doubles, one home run, four walks, four stolen bases, and nine putouts in four games, including a series sweep of Saint Francis University last weekend.
The La Crescenta, California native stands in the top 10 in the NEC in several statistical categories this season, including leading the conference in hits (34), stolen bases (14), and runs scored (23) during NEC play.
This is the second Player of the Week award for Hinkle this season, having previously received the award on March 31.
Fairbanks received NEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time this season, after leading LIU to two wins in the circle last weekend. In four games last week, Fairbanks recorded an ERA of 2.39 in four appearances in the circle, pitching 14.2 innings with two complete games, five earned runs, 14 strikeouts, 15 hits surrendered, and six walks.
As a batter, Fairbanks recorded four hits in seven at-bats for a batting average of .571, hitting one double and her first career home run, a grand slam in LIU's 12-2 win over Saint Francis on Sunday.
Rodriguez received her third NEC Prime Performer on Tuesday, having recorded five hits in 11 at-bats for a .455 batting average with seven RBI, two doubles, one home run, and four walks.
LIU returns to action on Tuesday, April 28, at 3 p.m. in a non-conference matchup against Saint Peter's University in Brooklyn.
