BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University men's water polo team (3-1, 0-0 Northeast Water Polo Conference) found itself in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 20 poll for the first time in program history on Wednesday.

LIU received one vote in the poll, as the Sharks came off a 3-1 weekend at the Bruno Classic in Providence, Rhode Island. At the tournament, LIU defeated Wagner College 16-15 in double overtime, Gannon University 14-13, and Connecticut College 19-7. This is the first time the program has received a vote in the CWPA poll.

With their success in the pool, junior Jack French was named the NWPC Player of the Week, while freshman Sebastiano Figari received NWPC Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday. French totaled 14 goals with five assists, four steals, two drawn exclusions, and one block, and Figari tallied 16 goals with three assists, five steals, and 10 drawn exclusions.

LIU returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, when it takes on George Washington University at 11 a.m. and Chapman University at 5 p.m. at the Navy Open in Annapolis, Maryland.
