EDISON, N.J. - Freshman Stella Young was named the Kap 7 MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, and fellow freshman Elena Grigoriou received Kap 7 MAAC Freshman of the Week honors on Wednesday, the conference announced.  

Young recorded 26 saves and seven steals in LIU's three matches last week and posted four penalty saves in LIU's 14-10 win over Santa Clara University at the Princeton Invitational on Friday. In the win over the Broncos, Young and the Sharks held Santa Clara to just one fourth-quarter goal. 

Grigoriou scored eight goals last week, including four in the win over the Broncos; the freshman utility netted two goals in LIU's matchups against Bucknell University and Harvard University on Friday and Saturday. The Voula, Greece native also totaled five assists, two blocks, two exclusions drawn, and one steal last week. 

LIU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 14, to take on Biola University at the Sun Devil Classic in Tempe, Arizona.
