NEW YORK — Senior forward Kadidia Toure of the Long Island University women's basketball team received Division I Co-Player of the Week honors by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday, adding to her NEC Player of the Week award she earned on Monday.
Toure shared the honor with guard/forward Perri Page of Columbia University.
Toure averaged 25.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in LIU's wins over Mercyhurst University and Saint Francis University last week. The Silver Spring, Maryland native has now posted an NEC-leading 7 double-doubles this winter, which is tied for the 21st-most nationally.
Across LIU's 15 games played, Toure leads the NEC in points per game (19.7), rebounds per game (10.6), field goal percentage (47.6%), and blocks per game (1.4).
Toure is the first LIU student-athlete to receive MBWA Division I Player of the Week honors since Valerie Nainima, who received the same award on February 25, 2008. That week, Nainima averaged 22 points, 5.6 rebounds, and three assists across three games, with wins over St. Francis Brooklyn College and Monmouth University.
Toure and the Sharks (9-6, 4-0 NEC) return to the floor on Thursday, Jan. 15, when they host Le Moyne College at 7 p.m. in Brooklyn.
