BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Kadidia Toure of the Long Island University women's basketball team (9-6, 4-0 NEC) was named the NEC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Toure was instrumental in LIU's wins over Mercyhurst and Saint Francis last week, helping pilot LIU's first 4-0 start in NEC play since the 2001-02 season.
Against the Lakers on Thursday, an 86-81 LIU win, Toure netted a career-high 29 points on 12-20 shooting, grabbing 14 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season. Toure also finished the game with two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
Two days later against the Red Flash, a 77-61 win for the Sharks, Toure followed up with another strong outing on the floor; the senior forward scored 22 points on 8-13 shooting, with 10 rebounds, 7 assists, two blocks, and four steals.
The Silver Spring, Maryland native has posted seven double-doubles this winter, the most in the NEC and is tied for the 20th-most nationally. In addition, Toure leads the NEC in points per game (19.7), rebounds per game (10.6), field goal percentage (47.6%), and blocks per game (1.4) across LIU's 15 games played.
This is Toure's second Player of the Week honor, having previously bene named Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 17. Toure has received eight NEC Prime Performer honors this season.
LIU returns to the floor on Thursday, Jan. 15, when it hosts Le Moyne College at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
