BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Redshirt junior quarterback Luca Stanzani was named NEC Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Offensive Player of the Week and graduate student linebacker Rafael Fasolino was named defensive player of the week, the conference announced on Monday. Redshirt junior quarterback Ethan Greenwood also received prime performer recognition after LIU downed Eastern Michigan University in week two, 28-23, earning the program's first-ever win over a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team.

On Saturday, Stanzani finished 12 of 18 passing for 143 yards and carried the ball 10 times, rushing for 67 yards and two touchdowns. He added one reception for 74 yards, the longest play from scrimmage by LIU this season.

Both of Stanzani's rushing touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, including the clinching score with 1:56 remaining in the game. He played the entire second half at quarterback in place of Greenwood, who exited the game due to injury late in the second quarter.

The weekly award is Stanzani's first player of the week award of his career. He previously earned weekly recognition as NEC Rookie of the Week three times during his freshman season in 2022.

Fasolino earned the NEC's top weekly defensive honor for the first time in his career after recording eight tackles (5 solo, 3 assisted), tying a team high, and one pass break up. Through two games this season, Fasolino is LIU's leading tackler. He recorded a team-best nine tackles in week one versus the University of Florida and has 17 total tackles (12 solo, 5 assisted) this season.

Greenwood threw for 105 yards on 3 of 5 passing and ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yard score, LIU's longest scoring play of the season, to cap the opening drive of the game.

Stanzani and Fasolino are the second and third Sharks to claim a NEC weekly award this season after punter Will Lynch was named special teams co-player of the week for his week one performance versus Florida.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday as LIU hosts Sacred Heart University in its home opener and annual homecoming game. Opening kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. Television coverage will be available digitally on NEC Front Row and the game can be heard on the LIU Sharks Audio Network via the Varsity Network App beginning at 11:30 a.m.
