BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore defensive back
Jalen Bell of the Long Island University football team was recognized by the Associated Press (AP) as an FCS Honorable Mention All-American on Wednesday.
Bell led the Sharks defense with 72 tackles while adding four pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble this season. He is only the second LIU player to earn All-America recognition from the AP. Defensive back
Eric O'Neill earned third team distinction in 2023.
Bell was one of seven Sharks to earn All-NEC Honors this past season, helping anchor a defense that limited opponents to just nine offensive touchdowns and 11.4 points per game.
This past season, LIU finished 6-6 overall, compiling the most overall wins in a single season during the program's Division I tenure. The season was highlighted by a 28-23 win at Eastern Michigan University, the program's first-ever win over a Football Bowl Subdivision team.
