Sharks Compete in Day One of EIWA Championship

Bethlehem, Pa. — After day one of the 121st EIWA Championship wrestling tournament, five Sharks remain alive in the placement rounds, including 125-pound senior Robbie Sagaris, 157-pound Brayden Roberts, 174-pound Blake Bahna, 184-pound Anthony D'Alesio, and heavyweight Chris Powell.

Robby Sagaris (125 lbs) had a tough start, losing his opening match to Carson Warner of Binghamton. However, he bounced back with two dominant wins, defeating Chris Nuficora of Bucknell 18-1 and Julian Dawson of Morgan State 15-0. Sagaris will face Desmond Pleasant of Drexel on Saturday, March 8.

Brayden Roberts (157 lbs) opened the day with a heartbreaking loss to Joshua Greenwood of Morgan State in the final seconds of the third period. He then responded with strong victories over Dakota Morrison of West Point (11-2) and Jurius Clarke of Hofstra (4-0). He will face Dan Wirmsburger of Bucknell on day two.

Blake Bahna (174 lbs) began the day with a loss to the 7-seed, Darian Roberts of Morgan State, 15-3. He came back with an impressive win over the 9-seed, Aiden Zarella of Sacred Heart, and then earned a big victory over the 4-seed, Jasiah Queen of Drexel, 14-3. Bahna will take on Ryland Rogers, the 8-seed from Lehigh next.

Anthony D'Alesio (184 lbs) started strong with a 14-3 win over Kingsley Menifee of Morgan State. However, he lost to Will Ebert of Binghamton 4-0, moving him to the consolation semifinals. He bounced back with a 6-3 decision over Lucas White of American University and in his next match, West Point's Jacob Guilfoyle forfeited to him. D'Alesio will face the 7-seed from Navy, Daniel Williams, on Saturday.

Chris Powell (HWT) suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Logan Shepherd of Bucknell in his opener. However, he came back strong with a 5-1 win over Brenden Gilcrest of Sacred Heart and another 5-1 victory over Ibrahim Ameer of Drexel. He faces the 5-seed, Xaviar Doolin of Morgan State, in his next match. 

Five Sharks are still alive in the EIWA tournament and will be looking to continue their journeys on Saturday, March 8.
