LIU Meets Mercyhurst in NEC Football Game of the Week

Sharks conclude 3-game stretch away from home, Opening kickoff at 1 p.m.

ERIE, Pa. - The Long Island University football team (1-4, 0-1 NEC) travels to Mercyhurst University (1-4, 0-0 NEC) on Saturday afternoon for the final game of a three-game stretch away from home. Opening kickoff at Saxon Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Saturday's game is the NEC Football Game of the Week and will be televised digitally on ESPN+ with Craig D'Amico (play-by-play) and Wayne Bradford (analyst) calling the action. Radio coverage will be available on the LIU Sharks Audio Network via the Varsity Network App with the "Voice of the Sharks" Phil Constantino and Tai Flot on the call.

THE STORYLINE: Saturday is homecoming for the Lakers, who are coming off a 51-7 loss at No. 2 South Dakota State University last Saturday. This will be the third of three-straight road contests for LIU. The Sharks are 1-3 away from home this season.

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's game marks the first-ever meeting between these two programs.
Mercyhurst is in just its second season of Division I football, after beginning its transition up from DII prior to the 2024 football season.

LAST TIME OUT: In a defensive battle, LIU dropped its conference opener to Stonehill College, 10-3, last Saturday at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Redshirt junior quarterback Ethan Greenwood, who returned to action after missing the previous two games due to injury, rushed the ball 20 times for a game-high 62 yards, while adding 137 yards on 12-for-23 passing.

Defensively, redshirt senior defensive back Omari Lewis led LIU with 10 tackles (7 solo, 3 assisted). Sophomore defensive tackle Scoop Gardner, Jr. followed with six stops (4 solo, 2 assisted) and graduate linebacker Rafael Fasolino, who is the team's leading tackler, added four tackles (3 solo, 1 assisted). Fasolino now has 37 total tackles (25 solo, 12 assisted) through the first five games.
