LIU Opens NEC Play on Saturday at Stonehill

Opening kickoff at 1 p.m.

NORTH EASTON, Mass. - The Long Island University football team (1-3) opens NEC play on Saturday at Stonehill College (1-3). Opening kickoff from W.B. Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The game will be televised digitally on NEC Front Row and the RYZ Network. Radio coverage will be available on the LIU Sharks Audio Network via the Varsity Network App with Mike Murabito and Tai Flot on the call.

THE STORYLINE: Saturday is homecoming for Stonehill, who is coming off a 24-21 home loss to the University of Pennsylvania last Saturday. This will be the second of three-straight road contests for LIU which is 1-2 away from Shark Stadium this season.

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's game marks the 21st meeting all-time between these two programs and the fourth at the Division I level. LIU holds a 16-4 advantage in a series that dates back to 1997. LIU also leads the series 2-1 in DI.

LIU won last year's meeting, holding Stonehill to a season low 135 yards of total offense in a 31-7 victory. The Sharks limited the NEC's top rushing offense to 23 yards on the ground that afternoon to go with just 112 yards passing. LIU's offense last year finished with 360 total yards, led by 241 total yards from then-redshirt sophomore quarterback Ethan Greenwood, who made his first career start and rushed the ball 26 times for 184 yards and a touchdown, while adding another touchdown through the air on 3-of-12 passing for 57 yards.

The Sharks are 8-2 all-time against the Skyhawks at home and 8-2 at W.B. Mason Stadium. Stonehill's last win on Long Island against the Sharks came with a 40-37 victory in 2015.

Stonehill won the last meeting in North Easton, closing out the 2023 season with a 40-23 triumph.

LIU head coach Ron Cooper is 2-1 in his career against the Skyhawks.

Stonehill head coach Eli Gardner is 1-5 over his career against the Sharks.

LAST TIME OUT: Redshirt junior running back O'Shawn Ross, Jr. ran for a season-high 130 yards on 11 attempts as LIU fell to No. 6/7 the University of Rhode Island before a crowd of 5,520 fans at Meade Stadium. Ross received NEC Prime Performer recognition for his performance.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Chris Howell, who was making his first start of the season for the injured Luca Stanzani and Ethan Greenwood, completed 10 of 28 passes for 101 yards and two interceptions while rushing for 45 yards and LIU's only touchdown on 14 attempts.
