BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's basketball team took the floor at the Steinberg Wellness Center for the first time this season, defeating Roberts Wesleyan University 83-65 in an exhibition matchup.
Redshirt senior Malachi Davis gave the Sharks an early lead with a three-pointer on LIU's first possession, and after the Redhawks took a brief lead just under a minute later, a second-chance basket by senior Greg Gordon put the Sharks back on top in the ballgame, a lead they would not relinquish. LIU took a 50-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
LIU forced 23 turnovers in Thursday's exhibition win and held the Redhawks to a field goal percentage of .347 in the game. The Sharks also had eight blocked shots in the win, including a team-high two by both sophomore Shadrak Lasu and junior Jomo Goings.
Davis led the Sharks with 20 points in the win, followed by 11 by Goings and 10 from Gordon. Lasu paced LIU with 13 rebounds, while Davis recorded a team-high nine assists.
LIU begins its 2025-26 campaign on the road against the University of Notre Dame on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.
