Jamal Fuller, Martin Navelsaker Beitveit Named NEC Winter Scholar Athletes

59 Sharks placed on NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Graduate student Jamal Fuller of the Long Island University men's basketball team and junior Martin Navelsaker Beitveit of the LIU men's swimming and diving team were both named winter NEC Scholar Athletes for their respective sports, the conference announced Friday. 

Fuller posted a GPA of 4.0 during the fall semester, while helping guide the LIU men's basketball team so its first NCAA tournament appearance in the Sharks era of the program. The graduate student led the Sharks in scoring with a 16.2 points per game average this winter, while also averaging 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1 steal, and 1.1 blocks per game 

The Toronto, Canada native was a First-Team All-NEC selection this winter, and received two NEC Player of the Week honors and nine NEC Prime Performer awards during the 2025-26 season.  

Navelsaker Beitveit also recorded a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester, and put on a trio of strong performances at the NEC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in February. The junior finished first in the 100-yard backstroke, and was a member of LIU's second place finishing 400-yard medley relay and third place finishing 200-yard medley relay. 

In addition, 59 Sharks were named to the NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll (above a 3.2 GPA), and 18 were named to the NEC Winter Commissioner's Honor Roll (above a 3.75 GPA). See below for a full list of both honor rolls.
