EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — LIU Sharks alum
Mikayla Lantto has signed with Skellefteå AIK of the Svenska damhockeyligan (SDHL) in Sweden.
"Mikayla is beyond deserving of this opportunity. She was an incredibly talented hockey player and leader for us here at LIU and I have no doubt that her abilities will translate at the professional level," exclaims Sharks head coach
Kelly Nash. "We're excited to watch her wear Skellefteå's jersey this upcoming season and cheer her on from Long Island!"
Lantto spent two seasons with the Sharks which included a NEWHA title in 2022-23 and an NCAA Tournament appearance. That season she earned NEWHA All-Tournament and All-Academic Team honors and scored her first LIU goal against perennial powerhouse Northeastern.
She continued her impressive LIU career in 2023-24 where she was named Second-Team All-NEWHA after scoring a league-high-tying 20 goals and tallying 11 assists.
Skellefteå AIK begins their season on September 12 as part of the growing SDHL, which is comprised of three leagues which allows for team promotions and relegations.
