BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — A day after four LIU men's golfers were individually honored, the Sharks received a team academic award from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Sharks earned a President's Special Recognition Award from the GCAA for exceeding a 3.50 GPA for the academic year.
LIU was among 54 Division I men's golf programs honored.
LIU student-athletes combined to produce a 3.68 GPA for the academic year.
On Wednesday, the Golf Coaches Association of America had recognized LIU men's golfers
André Ulvenes Kleppe,
Jan Rybczynski,
Kyle Underwood and
Lewis Wright with All-America Scholar awards.
Division I golfers with at least sophomore academic and athletic standing, a stroke average under 76.0 and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 are eligible for the award.
"I'm proud of the way the guys handle their business in the classroom," coach
Ben Belfield said. "The program's expectation for academics is high, and I'm pleased for them that they do an exceptional job in that area."
