Box Score HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Former NEC Rookie of the Year Jen Gaffney scored 86 seconds into the LIU women's lacrosse team's season opener on Saturday at James M. Shuart Stadium.

However, the Sharks ultimately fell to host Hofstra, 14-6.

Lluna Katz and Hannah Kenneally scored two goals apiece and Olivia Fantigrossi added a goal for LIU.

Katz, an attacker from Eastport, was making her LIU debut after previously playing collegiately at Kent State and Stony Brook. Both goals came in the second quarter— the latter with three seconds remaining until halftime to pull the Sharks within 7-3.

LIU next plays Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Iona.
