EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team proudly slipped on their 2022-23 NEWHA Championship rings at a team-bonding dinner, tangible symbols of their historic achievement in what had undeniably been the best season in LIU women's hockey history.
The record-breaking season included 20-wins, the most in program history, under first-year head coach
Kelly Nash and a historic NEWHA title that granted them the conference's first automatic NCAA tournament bid.
"We like to emphasize that it is always important to celebrate the wins, literally and figuratively," second-year oach
Kelly Nash said. "To us and our program, this was a goal we set at the beginning of last season and we're excited to celebrate and be recognized for achieving that goal."
Tindra Holm, the NEWHA Goaltender of the Year, played a pivotal role throughout the season, posting a 15-11 record, a 2.80 goals-against average, and a remarkable .932 save percentage in 29 games.
"To me the ring is just a symbol of what we achieved together back in March and I think it is very much up to the returning players to emphasize the daily work and take lead in getting us there again next March. "Everyone who has experienced a championship just wants to do it again and again," Holm said.
Nash gave thanks to Long Island University President Dr. Cline, athletic Director Ryan Kelly, and her coaching and support staff.
LIU returns to the Northwell Health Ice Center on Nov. 3 against Assumption.
