SOUTH KENT, Conn. — The LIU men's golf team showed improvement in their second fall competition.
After tying for eighth place at the season opening tournament hosted by St. John's, the Sharks finished fourth among 16 teams at the Hartford Hawks Invite.
"The guys were extremely solid this weekend, as we finished another tournament under par," head coach
Ben Belfield said. "This team is very deep. One through eight can change every week, but they are all playing hungry and seeing our level rise every time out. They have high expectations."
The team finished 4-under-par at 860 through three rounds.
Lewis Wright made a final push and shot a stellar 67 in round three. He finished seventh among all individuals.
"Lewis had a terrific final round. He looked incredibly calm and broke through for us," Belfield said.
Jesse Macnaughtan finished even with a 216.
Ary Mohan finished with a 66 in round two, ten strokes lower than his 76 in round one.
Said Belfiedl: "Ary shot a stunning 29 on the back nine. Jesse continued his great form to start the year."
The next competition will begin on Oct. 2 in Hamden, Mass. at the UConn Intercollegiate.
