BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU men's soccer team earned a first-round win in the NCAA Tournament at Maryland last season.
Now, on Day 1 of 2022 regular-season practices, one of the driving forces behind that success has been recognized by United Soccer Coaches.
Henry Haferkorn has been named among the Division I Players to Watch by the national coaching organization.
United Soccer Coaches released its list of 24 defenders nationally on Tuesday that included Haferkorn.
Haferkorn, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior from Germany, earned All-Northeast Region second team and NEC All-Tournament Team honors a season ago. He tallied two goals and one assist in 21 matches.
A business administration major, Haferkorn also earned a spot on the NEC Spring 2022 Academic Honor Roll.
"Henry is a great leader for our program," LIU coach
Michael Mordocco said. "He's very mature. He does all the right things. We're expecting big things from him this season. Certainly his leadership and maturity will take us a long way."
