ELMSHORN, Germany — LIU baseball alum
Luke Turner's budding professional baseball career will continue in Australia.
Turner, who led the Sharks in batting average this past season as a graduate transfer, will begin playing with the Rockingham Rams in Australia in September. The Rams play in the top baseball division in Western Australia.
Turner has spent the summer alongside fellow LIU alum
Ryan Mullahey with the Elmshorn Alligators in the German Bundesliga.
"Playing in Germany has been a lifechanging experience," Turner said. "Everyone here has been so welcoming and made it so fun to play baseball. The atmosphere is electric at the games, and you can tell these people love this game. Being able to travel around to different cities and experience their culture is something I'll value forever.
"We have playoffs coming up these next few weeks, so we are hoping to make some noise and win a championship."
A 6-foot-2 first baseman from King of Prussia, Pa., Turner hit .351 (40-for-114) with one homer, 18 RBIs and a .436 OBP in 34 games (33 starts) for the Sharks this past spring as LIU won Northeast Conference regular-season and postseason titles.
Turner's brother Andrew played for LIU in 2018 and similarly led the team in batting average en route to an NCAA Regional berth.
