Underwood, Wright, and Gabura Earn All-NEC

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – After finishing second at the Northeast Conference Championships, more honors come for LIU men's golf.

Kyle Underwood and Lewis Wright were voted 2022 NEC Men's Golf First Team All-Conference, and Lukas Gabura was placed on Second Team All-Conference.

Underwood closed out the season by finishing second at the NEC Championships, shooting a 70 on day two.

Underwood finished second among his team in lowest average score (73.61).

"After a tough fall, Kyle completely reset himself over the winter and made some massive changes," said head coach Ben Belfield. "He has been the leader on this team and has been very consistent. He does a terrific job of competing and am looking forward to his senior year."

Finishing first in lowest average was Wright, capping his freshman season with all-conference honors. His average ranked first among all freshmen in the NEC.

Wright averaged a 73.40 score with his best three-day finish coming at the Shark Invitational (211).

"Lewis has been solid all year, and he is very levelheaded," Belfield said. "It was great to see him progress in the spring and evaluating his game over the winter break. I'm looking forward to seeing him reach the next level as he continues to improve."

Additionally, Wright was named NEC Golfer of the Month on March 10 after tying fourth (+1) at the Golf Coast Collegiate tournament on March 1.

Gabura rounded out his first season with the Sharks with multiple top finishes. He placed fifth at the Villanova Wildcat Spring Invitational on April 19.

Gabura tied for third (205) at the Bash at the Beach on March 15. Gabura finished with an average score of 75.73.

"Lukas is such a talent, and he really started playing his best golf at the end of the season," Belfield said. "However, he has shown throughout the year that he can shoot in the 60's at will. I am looking forward to seeing a new level of consistency next year and have no doubt that he will emerge as a better player next year."
