SHARKS WIN! Women’s Water Polo Continues Winning Streak

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's water polo team was on a hot-streak on Sunday, taking down Virginia Military Institute 24-8 and then Siena College 17-8. The Sharks are now 21-5 overall and 10-1 in conference. They are also riding a seven-game winning run and are unbeaten at home this season.

LIU 24, WMI 8
  • In their first matchup on Sunday against VMI, the Sharks slipped a total of total of 24 goals past the keeper and into the cage, allowing only 8 goals to their opponents.
  • Led offensively by Alejandra Aranguren with five goals for the morning's matchup, the Sharks were up 6-1 at the end of the first period and leading 13-4 at halftime. LIU would add 11 more in the second half to VMI's four to finish 24-8 over the Keydets.
  • Rachel Loomis scored four goals while Jessica Dean and Diba Peiravani each tallied three.
  • Julia Zebak and Rebecca Ansell combined for eleven saves for the match.
 
LIU 17, SIENA 8
  • Sunday's game two was similar to game one, where LIU continued to dominate offensively, this time against the Saints of Siena.
  • The Sharks had a balanced attack approach, with nine players notching goals throughout the game. The Sharks had an 11-3 lead going into halftime before scoring seven more and only allowing five from their opponent in the second half to take the 17-8 victory.
  • Jessica Dean led the team with four goals, and Elena Camarena scored three.
  • Julia Zebak and Rebecca Ansell had six combined saves total for the game.
 
On Wednesday April 13, the Sharks will be taking on Siena again. This time in Albany at 6 p.m.
