Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y. – LIU baseball traveled across the Island to Stony Brook on Tuesday, defeating the Seawolves, 10-6. With the win, the Sharks improve to 6-6 on the season, and the 13 hits for LIU also ties a season high.
SHARK BITES
- The Sharks offense exploded out of the gate by scoring three runs in the opening frame. Christopher Wasson knocked an RBI single to score Seth Surrett, giving LIU an early 1-0 lead.
- Two batters later, Carlton Harper drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Michael Edelman, making it 2-0. Luke Turner would draw another walk to score Wasson, bringing the score to 3-0, Sharks.
- Stony Brook scored on a groundout in the bottom half, making it 3-1 at the end of the first.
- The second inning saw another run come across the plate for LIU when EJ Exposito hit a sacrifice fly to score Edelman after reaching on a bunt, making it 4-1.
- In the third, Harper reached on a fielder's choice, and Jack Power slapped an RBI single to right center to move the score to 5-1. The Sharks scored two runs with two outs when Turner scored on a wild pitch, growing the lead to 6-1. With runners on second and third, Exposito drilled an RBI double into left center as the lead would swell to 8-1, LIU, in the top of the third.
- Stony Brook added a run in the sixth to trim the deficit to 8-2. LIU responded in the seventh with a Power two-RBI single that scored Turner and Harper, pushing the lead to 10-2.
- The Seawolves would add three more runs in the bottom half to make it 10-5, LIU, through seven innings.
- Nick Torres was able to get out of the ninth after giving up two hits by striking out Stony Brook's Miceli to end the game.
- Jalen Wade earned the win for the Sharks, going five innings and giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out five. Shane Helmstadt was given the loss for Stony Brook.
- Exposito and Power led the Sharks with three RBIs each, and Wasson, Harper, and Turner had one apiece.
Up next, the Sharks will travel to New Haven, Conn. on Thursday to face Yale at 3:30 p.m.
