Bowling Ties Highest Finish Ever at NEC Championships

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The LIU bowling team tied its highest finish in program history Saturday at the 2022 Northeast Conference championships, finishing second. The #5-seeded Sharks fell in the championship match to top-seeded Sacred Heart, 2-0.

  • The mega match format that the tournament consists of includes three different matches in three different formats. The first is a traditional match, followed by a five-game baker match, and then a best-of-7 baker match, if needed.
  • The tournament was a double-elimination event, meaning LIU had to beat SHU twice to win the title.
  • The Sharks got off to a strong start in the traditional match, as each of the five bowlers started with a strike. Senior Francesca Rossi had a team-best six straight strikes in the match, while senior Nicole Lettich had five straight strikes.
  • The Sharks fell to the Pioneers in a close final score, 1075-148.
  • Rossi led the Sharks, bowling a 254, while Lettich had aa 235. Senior Kellie Frain had a 212 for LIU.
  • In the five game baker match, the Pioneers started strong, with a 40-pin lead. SHU rolled that momentum to a 1126-933 win, taking the 2-0 match victory to claim the title on the way. (255-201, 257-0223, 191-144, 205-206, 218-159).
  • The Sharks finish the 2021-22 season with a 64-47 overall record.
