Baseball Battles Hofstra

Box Score HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – LIU baseball returned to the East Coast after its Arizona road trip to take on Hofstra, falling to the Pride, 6-5.

SHARK BITES

LIU drew first blood in the top of the first inning. Michael Edelman was able to reach on an error, and he advanced to third on a balk. EJ Exposito singled to left field to score Edelman and give the Sharks an early 1-0 lead.
The Sharks took advantage of two more balks in the third. Jack Power walked and advanced to second on a balk before stealing third. Edelman would triple to right moments later to score Power. After Exposito walked, Edelman scored on another balk to make it 3-0, Sharks. Hofstra added a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1 after three.
Power hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Luke Turner in the fourth, making it 4-1, LIU. Nick Marrero would narrow the deficit for the Pride on a two-run home run. It was 4-3 heading to the fifth inning.
In the fifth, Colin Adams made it three straight innings with a run when he singled to center to score Christopher Wasson to give LIU a 5-3 lead.
Neither team would score again until the bottom of the ninth, when the Pride rattled off three runs to walk-off on an RBI single, 6-5.
Edelman finished 2-5 at the plate with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Nick Torres was given the loss, his first of the season, and Cullen Santa Maria earned the win for Hofstra.
Up next, the Sharks will take on Saint Peter's in Hempstead on Saturday, March 5 at 3:00 p.m.
