SHARK BITES
- Ayyoub, who won the 3,000m on day one of the championships, made it a sweep of the distance events, as he took the tittle in the 5,000m run as well. The freshman stayed close to the front of the pack throughout the race, and then let loose a fantastic kick in the final 200m that put the field in his review mirror. He won the event by a full second and a half, with a time of 14:44.24. The time is good for an automatic IC4A qualification, and earned the rookie his second individual medal of the meet.
- Sey had a huge morning, as he won the championship event of the men's 60m dash. Sey crossed the line with a time of 6.77, tying the NEC meet record, set by LIU alum Nickolei Mahlungh in 2013.
- The 200m was one of the most exciting races of the day, as senior Kimorie Shearman and Sey went nose-and-nose at the wire. Both finished with a time of 21.59, with Shearman taking gold by out-leaning Sey at the finish. Sey finished with the silver, while Jordan McKenzie scored points in the final, coming in seventh (22.10).
- Another exciting race for the Sharks was the 800m run. Junior Lucas Fernandez stayed with the front pack for most of the four laps, and in the final 50 meters turned on the jets, powering past the field to win his first NEC championship, with a time of 1:52.43.
- LIU senior Jonathan Gonzalez also scored huge points for the Sharks with his silver in the men's mile. He came in second with a time of 4:15.94 to make an appearance on the podium.
- Junior Jahsira J. Dunbar was also a silver medalist, as he came in second in the men's triple jump. He finished with a final jump of 15.72m. Teammate Krishna White came in fourth, clearing 14.96m.
- TJ Roberts also earned a spot on the podium, as he took bronze in the 60m hurdles. He came in third with a time of 8.44 seconds, just ahead of teammate Abubakar Muhammed, who finished seventh in 8.60.
- The 4x400m relay squad of Shearman, Keirryse Simpson, McKenzie and Roberts had a strong start in the final event of the day, but a botched handoff had the speedy Sharks finish eighth in the field.
- And the distance medley relay squad of Fernandez, Aidan Haughian, Jesse Wells and Gonzalez came in seventh in the field, with a time of 10:23.52.
