Bowling Takes on LA Tech Bowling Classic

cDALLAS, Texas – The LIU bowling team took part in the Louisiana Tech Bulldog Classic this weekend, facing off against some of the top teams in the nation. The Sharks finished the weekend with a 4-8 record, good for eighth in the team standings.
 
SHARK BITES – DAY ONE
  • The Sharks opened the tournament with one of the toughest teams in the field, taking on No. 4 Vanderbilt. The Sharks fell to the Commodores, 926-865 (120-215, 191-169, 198-196, 159-170, 197-186).
  • LIU then fell to Arkansas State, 944-842 (179-169, 144-157, 188-214, 171-208, 160-196).
  • The Sharks bounced back with three straight wins, beating Prairie View A&M 924-895 (200-166, 182-192, 189-167, 161-192, 192-178) and #21 Lincoln Memorial, 943-867 (170-165, 193-179, 186-174, 222-189, 172-160). LIU capped day one with a win over #25 Central Missouri, 958-907 (165-197, 193-149, 198-189, 257-173, 145-199).
 
SHARK BITES – DAY TWO
  • Day two saw the Sharks take on four of the highest ranked teams at the tournament.
  • LIU opened the day with a loss to host and #5 ranked Louisiana Tech, 953-892.
  • The Sharks took on Grambling State next, winning 892-698. Patricia Kelly led the Sharks with a 212, while Sarah Orensky bowled a 202.
  • LIU then fell to #2 Sam Houston State, 1000-840, and #15 Tulane in a close one, 909-900. Brittany Lucci led the Sharks against the Green Wave, bowling a 214.
  • The Blue and Gold capped the day with a loss to #8 Stephen F. Austin, 992-907. Senior Kellie Frain led the team with a 231.
  • Overall on day two, Kelly led the Sharks, averaging 190.6 for five traditional games.
 
SHARK BITES – DAY THREE
  • Day three saw the Sharks open against the bye, followed by seeding for two rounds of best-of-7 baker bracket play.
  • LIU bowled a 1031 against the bye. Frain had a 247, and Kelly had a 213.
  • In bracket play, LIU fell to #15 Tulane, 4-1 (188-200, 154-203, 188-161, 181-214, 149-171).
  • LIU capped the weekend with a 4-0 loss to #4 Vanderbilt (191-213, 189-201, 189-191, 136-176).
