NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For their first meet of the season, the LIU women's gymnastics team competed in a quad meet against Yale, Brown, and West Chester University on Sunday. Sophomore
Jah'Liyah Bedminster earned meet-best scores in two events. The Sharks competed in all four events, and placed second overall at the meet with a total score of 190.825, beating both Yale and Brown.
SHARK BITES
- On beam, freshman Ilka Juk started off the day for the sharks with a 9.750, while sophomore Ella Castellanos followed closely behind with a 9.725 for the event. The Sharks began the day with a team score of 46.950.
- The Sharks then moved to the floor event where Bedminster tallied her first event win of the day, scoring a 9.825 and the team an aggregate score of 93.950.
- In the third rotation of the afternoon, Bedminster earned herself a second win, scoring 9.825 on vault, while Juk tallied a 9.775 for her effort. LIU compiled a running team score of 142.575 as a result of the event.
- On bars, the final rotation of the meet for the Sharks, Castellanos posted a 9.775 to push the Sharks to their final score of 190.825.
- Next, the Sharks will travel to Pittsburgh to compete in a tri-meet against the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Maryland on January 16.
