SHARKS WIN! Gymnastics Defeats Yale For First Meet Win in Program History

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
 – The LIU women's gymnastics team hosted its first-ever home meet with fans in the stands against Yale University on Sunday. The Sharks took down the Bulldogs in an exciting meet that came down to the final event, 194.200-193.875. LIU's fina team score sets a new school record, and the Sharks earned their first-ever win as a gymnastics program. 
 
SHARK BITES
  • LIU started the meet on vault. Lauren Miller had the highest score of the team with a 9.725. 
  • For the second rotation, the Sharks moved to uneven bars. Sophomore Mara Titarsolej capped the event with a near-perfect 9.90 result, which was the winning score of the event.
  • A team score of 48.700 on bars was good for a new LIU record.
  • LIU moved to the beam for the third rotation of the afternoon. Freshman Ilka Juk anchored the Sharks with a 9.825, a personal-best. 
  • The two teams were tied heading into the final event of the day, with floor for the Sharks and beam for the Bulldogs determining who would take the team win.
  • On the floor, Amanda Loo anchored with the highest score of the rotation with a 9.800, capping the exciting day for the Sharks.
  • Up next, LIU will host Temple University on January 30 at 2:00 p.m.
