BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU gymnastics team was honored by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Wednesday for its work in the classroom. The Sharks were honored as one of the 58 teams in the nation with a GPA of 3.5 or more on a 4.0 scale, and 12 members of the program were given the WCGA Academic All-America Award, having finished the year with a 3.5 GPA or better.
"Congratulations to the student-athletes, coaches, and support staff on a record-breaking year of academic success," Kerrie Turner, WCGA president and head coach at Bowling Green, said. "The balance needed to be a successful student and athlete takes considerable planning and intentional effort, which was certainly heightened during pandemic conditions. I am thrilled to see women's gymnastics achieving incredibly high standards in the classroom during this challenging time."
The Sharks finished their first season as a program with a 3.6135 GPA, ranking them in the top 50 in the country.
And 12 members of the team were WCGA Academic All-America Award winners, who are all student-athletes with 3.5 overall grade point average or a 3.5 grade point average for 2020-21. From LIU,
