BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU sophomore
Will Mark added another accolade to his growing list Sunday evening, as he was named a 2021 Men's Division I All-American by
Inside Lacrosse, the first ever for the Shark program.
Inside Lacrosse announced the 2021 Men's DI All-Americans, as voted on by members of the media this week. As per tradition, they were announced during halftime of the last game of the NCAA Tournament First Round.
Voters were asked to select three first-team, three second-team, three third-team and three honorable mention attackmen, midfielders and defensemen, then one first-team, second-team, third-team and honorable mention face-off specialists, shortstick d-middies, longstick middies and goalies. The teams were selected based on the cumulative total of points received (four for first-team, three for second-team, two for third-team and one for honorable mention).
There are few better across the nation than Mark, who finished the regular season leading Division I in saves per game (17.45), more than two stops ahead of his closest competitor. His 30 saves in LIU's regular season finale against Bryant stands as the NEC single-game season-high. The Danville, Calif. native also ranked first in the NEC and ninth in the country in save percentage, turning away shots at a 57.7 percent clip. Mark made history as LIU's first NEC Defensive Player of the Year recipient after serving as a brick wall in between the pipes for LIU. Four times this season, Mark was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week as he backstopped the Sharks to a 5-3 conference record and the program's first NEC Tournament berth.
