BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Junior attackman
Ben McIsaac of the Long Island University men's lacrosse team was named NEC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The weekly award is McIsaac's second this season after previously receiving the honor on March 2.
In Saturday's 25-6 win over Mercyhurst University, McIsaac led the Sharks with six goals, tying a career high. The Toronto native is averaging a hat trick per game, good for the second-best goal-scoring rate in the league. He also sits second in the NEC in points (38) and points per game (3.80).
Shaun Hill (won 18 of 22 faceoffs),
Jack Whitehouse (3 goals, 1 assist) and
Aidan Zuhoski (4 goals, 2 assists), all also earned prime performer recognition for their performances on Saturday. LIU's offensive explosion versus Mercyhurst set a program Division I record for goals in a game (25) and tied the record for team points in a game (45).
McIsaac is one of three LIU players to claim player of the week honors this season (Zuhoski, March 30 &
Cameron Connolly, Feb. 9). The trio, along with
Tyler Davide (defensive player of the week, Feb. 23) and
Tyler Gresh (defensive player of the week, Feb. 9), have all earned weekly awards from the NEC this season.
At 4-0 in the NEC, the Sharks are currently tied with Robert Morris University for the top spot in the conference standings. LIU's .900 winning percentage is tied for the third-best winning percentage nationally in Division I.
The Sharks return to action on Sunday, April 12, versus Virginia Military Institute, riding a six-game winning streak. Opening faceoff at Shark Stadium is scheduled for 11 a.m.
