Aidan Zuhoski and
Ben McIsaac each scored three goals and the Long Island University men's lacrosse team (10-3, 5-2 NEC) defeated Cleveland State University (6-7, 4-3 NEC), 12-8, on Saturday afternoon at Shark Stadium in its regular season finale. Zuhoski added two assists, leading the way with five points and one groundball.
Cameron Connolly scored two goals with two assists, one groundball, and one caused turnover.
Antony Tsakos added two goals with one assist.
Tied 7-7 late in the third quarter, the Sharks took advantage of a man-up chance when Tsakos scored, assisted by Zuhoski with 3:28 left in the quarter.
Moments later, with eight seconds left in the frame,
Charlie Hunnewell scored an unassisted goal to give LIU a two-goal lead entering the fourth. The Sharks scored five of the game's final six goals to seal the victory.
LIU won groundballs 32-29 and won 15 of 24 faceoffs. Goaltender
Brayden Wilcken made 10 saves.
LIU has secured the No. 2 seed in the NEC Tournament and will face (3) Cleveland State in the semifinals on Thursday night in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
