TEANECK, N.J. – The LIU baseball team capped the weekend with one of their biggest wins under head coach
Dan Pirillo. The Sharks put up 26 runs on 22 hits, beating FDU 26-6 to sweep the Knights and move to 16-10 in the Northeast Conference.
The Sharks put up the most runs at the Division I level in at least the last 20 years. The Sharks came close to the school record of 29 runs, set in 1955, but didn't quite reach it. And
Davyn Adamscheck was just one off the school record of six hits in a single game, as he went 5-for-7 at the plate with a team-high six RBI.
Anthony Warneke and
Giovanni Ciaccio also had four RBI each in the wins.
The Sharks got on the board in the second, when
Christopher Wasson, Ciacco and Warneke had three-straight doubles to put LIU up, 2-0. LIU blew the game open in the top of the third, scoring 10 runs. Warneke had the first RBI on the inning on a double, and then RBIs followed for Ciacco, Adamscheck, and
Colin Adams. Adams had a two-out double to score two runs, and then
Cade Biddle had a double that scored one more, making it 9-0. The Knights put in a new pitcher, but Warneke came up to the plate again, and hit a two-run home run to make it 11-0 LIU.
EJ Exposito was up next, and hit another homer that put LIU 12-0.
In the fifth, Ciacco added an RBI on a sac fly, and Adamscheck had an RBI single that gave the Sharks a 14-2 lead. After FDU scored six runs in the bottom of the inning, LIU got another 11 runs on the board in the sixth.
Ryan Mullahey led off with a home run, and Biddle had an RBI single. Ciaccio and Adamscheck had back-to-back RBI singles, and Mullahey had an RBI walk with the bases loaded.
Connor Price would bring home two with a double, and Warneke added an RBI walk to his total.
Brian O'Boyle would pinch hit, and got an RBI when he reached on a fielder's choice, and
Dawson Degnan would reach on an error that scored an unearned run, and LIU came out of the inning on top, 25-6.
LIU added one more run in the top of the seventh, on an RBI single for
Myles Proctor, putting LIU up, 26-6.
Mike Lazos (7-0) had his win on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings.
Patrick Clyne,
Jack VanDoran and
Rob Griswold combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit each.
