NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The LIU bowling team went 1-2 on the last day of Northeast Conference competition Sunday, beating No. 7 ranked Mount St. Mary's once, and dropping two to the Mountaineers.
The Sharks are now 8-10 in conference meets, putting them in fifth place in the standings with one meet left. LIU will bowl St. Francis Brooklyn in a single day meet to determine the final standings heading into the NEC Championship. Five teams qualify for that weekend-long event.
In the first match of the day, the Sharks fell to MSM in a traditional match, 952-884. Senior
Emily Cavanaugh was the high bowler for LIU, with a 222.
The Sharks were victorious in the five-game baker match, beating the No. 7 nationally-ranked team, 921-871 (195-150, 169-191, 158-191, 185-158, 214-181).
And in the final match of the game, a best of seven baker, the Sharks forced it to the end, but fell, 4-3 (231-213, 202-234, 258-193, 189-247, 230-258, 189-183, 171-222).
The final day of NEC competition will be Sunday, March 7, when the Sharks take on the Terriers in three matches in one day.
