Fencing Fares Well at Shark Tank Challenge

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -
The LIU women's fencing team had a strong showing in their first team event of the 2021-22 season Sunday, winning five of six team matches in the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Sharks beat Drew, Wellesley, Wagner, Stevens and Yeshiva, and took a close loss at the hands of NJIT.
 
In the match against Drew, the Rangers won both epee and sabre matches, 5-4, but LIU's strong showing in foil, winning 6-3, gave the Sharks the 14-13 team win. Against NJIT, LIU did well once again in foil, winning 7-2, and also won sabre, 5-4, but got swept in epee by the Highlanders, 9-0, giving NJIT a 15-12 team win.
 
LIU had a close win over Wellesley, 14-13. The Sharks won saber, 6-3, and epee, 5-4, and saw the visitors take foil, 6-3, but it wasn't enough, and LIU took the win. LIU also beat Wagner with ease, winning every weapon. The foil and epee squads won, 6-3, while sabre took 5 of the nine matches.
 
In the last two matches, the Sharks dominated, beating Yeshiva, 25-2, and Stevens, 19-8. Against Yeshiva, both the sabe and epee squads went 9-0, while foil won 7-2. And against Stevens, LIU went 7-2 in sabre and foil, and 5-4 in epee.
