FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The LIU bowling team started the 2021-22 season off on a strong note Saturday, winning four of their five traditional matches to finish day one at the SHU Bowl for a Cure in third place.
LIU opened the day with a win over #19 nationally-ranked Monmouth with a win, 911-869. Senior
Kellie Frain led the Sharks with a 248 in that match. Both she and senior
Patricia Kelly also bowled a 200 in LIU's win over #25 Adelphi, as LIU won 940-861.
The only loss for the day came against Caldwell, 884-784, but the Sharks bounced back with wins over Molloy (881-819) and Caldwell (871-824) to finish the day. In the second match against Caldwell, freshman
Sydney Binkley shot a 203, while junior
Brittany Lucci bowled a 201.
Senior
Kellie Frain was named to the All-Tournament team, as she bowled the fifth-highest average for five games, leading the team with a 195.2 average, and 976 pins for five games.
Tomorrow, the Sharks resume competition at the tournament, taking part in five five-game baker matches.
